Full Description

The PADI Wreck Diver Specialty Course is designed for divers who dream of exploring sunken ships, airplanes, and other fascinating man-made structures. These wrecks often become vibrant artificial reefs, attracting an incredible variety of marine life. In this course, you'll learn how to explore these sites safely, respectfully, and with confidence.

Why wreck diving is unique

Wreck diving isn't just about the adrenaline — it's a journey into history. Each wreck tells a story, whether it's a ship intentionally sunk to create a reef or an old vessel claimed by the sea decades ago. These underwater landmarks are home to diverse ecosystems, but they also come with unique challenges such as entanglement hazards, overhead environments, and limited visibility.

Skills you will learn

Throughout the course you'll gain the skills needed to plan and execute safe wreck dives. Training includes assessing wreck stability, maintaining proper buoyancy to protect both yourself and the wreck, navigating confined spaces, and using specialized tools like reels, torches, and dive computers.

Safety and equipment

The course emphasizes safe diving practices, from evaluating potential hazards like sharp edges and strong currents to using the right equipment for wreck penetration. You'll learn techniques to avoid disturbing the wreck environment and ensure your own safety while exploring these historic sites.

Practical dive training

During your open water sessions you'll visit real wreck sites where you'll practice navigation, buoyancy control, and hazard identification. Each dive builds your confidence and skills, preparing you to explore wrecks at different depths and in a variety of conditions.
